What could be better than spending a whole Sunday with a couple of friends travelling through beautiful countryside? Inspired by an idea from the author Jaroslav Rudis, we decided to use the All-Austria Train Ticket KlimaTicket and explore some regional trains that nobody from our group has ever used before.
While researching which route would be the best, many ideas came to mind, but of course it is not possible to combine all of them. Very well known is the Semmering part, also very easily accessible from Vienna. I have been there several times, so I concentrated on finding a suitable round trip in the west of Austria. As Tyrol and East Tyrol are not directly connected, the train parts through Italy/South Tyrol are even included in the train ticket, it takes forever but is more than worth the trip. So the plan was settled to concentrate on the West of Austria and on a Sunday in November 2023 we started the experience with the hope to catch all necessary trains.
This is the map of our idea, quite many trains and nearly everything in the mountain regions of Austria.

This was our planned schedule. In the end it really worked out, hardly any delays. The only problem arose when we arrived in Wörgl (on time), but the connecting RJ to Innsbruck was delayed. With this delay the train to Brenner and then the rest would have not worked, but luckily a Westbahn was also 5min delayed and this was just enough for us to sprint via the whole station with a heavy box of cooled drinks.
